Creative Writing Prompt (SoCS challenge) in the raw, no edits… just for fun
/pat, pet, pit, pot, put/
… short-vowel words, such as these,
I see everyday
as my five year old son is finding his way.
He’s making a stride in this thing called Life;
he’s starting to read, starting to write.
Just five letters and five simple sounds
(a,e,i,o,u)
for a five year old … they are quite profound.
They come alive bringing meaning to youth:
signs, books, ads, and simple sentences alike
these five little letters are making him bright.
We change the beginning and ending sounds
but the short vowels are always around.
We make silly sentences
and then call it a day…
such as…
“Pet the pit bull pet, then put the pot away.”ย
missionzera blessings, (former elementary educator & present homeschool “zeramomma”)
-Brook
P.S. It’s almost Saturday.ย
God’s seed: “Send out your light and your truth…” (Psalm 43:3)

That was a SUPER fun read. Poignant actually at the same time. All we are as we grow as humans communicated SO much in the sounds we use. Got to love five year olds! (Yes I have one of em little monkeys ๐ )

Great poem, Brook. ๐ It’s fascinating to watch kids use these sounds for the first time, isn’t it? Thanks so much for participating in SoCS – hope you enjoyed!
